Very pleasant and interesting afternoon hearing about Hand Picked Hotel's ambitious integrated sustainability program. This connects the gardens of their hotels with the guests and the running of the buildings. Recycling water and kitchen waste, food, flowers and herbs grown in the grounds, and ethical suppliers all feature. Fascinating presentations from CEO Julia Hands, Caroline Scaramanga, the lead garden designer for Hand Picked Hotels, Carolyn Martin owner of sustainable winery, Creation Wines in South Africa, and Corne Pretorius covering South African Plants. An excellent evening of culture and cuisine at the Portuguese Embassy in London last night. A talk by award winning Portuguese author José Luís Peixoto was fascinating and thought provoking. He gave a reading from his latest book, Onde (Where), which features a journey through the villages of the Centro region in Portugal. Centro is a very interesting place to visit, with many breathtaking cultural attractions. Our journey continued with dishes created by Michelin star chef, Diogo Rocha. He is head chef at the Mesa de Lemos restaurant in Viseu, a charming and historic Centro town. Tasty treats, reflective of the local region, included cold, river fish and bacon soup, smoked eel and asparagus, chicken with hazelnuts, sausage stuffed pastry, cod and vegetables, mountain goat. The delicious wines were from the restaurant owned Quinta de Lemos vineyard.

An excellent evening, dinner at
Dinner last night, the Turkish street food favourite, Lahmacun. Home-made pizza dough rolled ultra thin then topped with minced lamb, onion, garlic, red pepper, tomatoes, cumin, paprika, tomato puree, chilli flakes, salt and pepper. Cooked for 10 minutes at 275c. #lahmacun #turkishfood
