Celebrate International Women’s Day with Tesco wines

International Women’s Day is just around the corner (8th March) and we want to celebrate by sharing wines from the female winemakers on Tesco shelves

Tesco Female Winemakers

Below is a selection of just a few of the wines made by pioneering women in the industry.

Fern Bay Sauvignon Blanc (Kaitlin Bond) – £7

From the dramatic scenery and shimmering waters of New Zealand, Fern Bay Sauvignon Blanc is full of zingy passion fruit and gooseberry flavours with a refreshing lemon finish. Fresh and fruity, it’s perfect with chicken, fish or creamy pasta.

Tesco Finest Swartland Shiraz (Helienne Swanepoel) – £7.50

Made from grapes grown on traditional bush vines in South Africa’s up and coming Swartland region. Full bodied with flavours of blackberry, dark cherry and plum, punctuated with spice and pepper notes and a rich, juicy finish. Enjoy with barbecued sausages, peppered steak or hearty stews. Drinking well now but if stored correctly this wine will age nicely for up to 3 years.

Tesco Finest Valpolicella Ripasso (Michele Peroni) – £11

From Northern Italy’s famed Valpolicella region comes a bold wine full of dark fruit flavours. This red is passed twice through the grape skins to create a darker colour, a richer texture and a complex and smooth taste. Paired beautifully with aged cheeses and braised meats.

Arbousset Tavel Rosé (Julie Rouffignac) – £12

Tavel is a Cru in the southern Rhône Valley that produces only rosé wines, known for their complexity and finesse.

They can be appreciated in their youth and unlike much rosé can also be considered for aging. The Arbousset Rosé is dry and full bodied, with notes of grapefruit, raspberries and spices.

Its great complexity means it can be enjoyed throughout the year, as well as with foods such as grilled meats, spicy cuisine, cheeses and fruity desserts.

It’s more than a rosé, it’s a Tavel!

Bird in Hand Two in the Bush Chardonnay (Sarah Burvill) – £14

A lively cool climate chardonnay with fresh varietal fruit flavours of nectarine, peach and cashews followed through with a delicious intensely flavoured and delicately textured mouthfeel.

The Bird in Hand vineyards, winery, cellar door and restaurant thrive in the nurturing hands of the founding Nugent family.

Wine of Adelaide, Australia

Mar de Frades Albariño (Paula Fandiño) – £16

This Portuguese wine is made with the freshest grapes are pressed directly. They are macerated for 32 hours. Once the clean and aromatic musts are obtained, the indigenous yeasts that have accompanied them transform the sugar into alcohol to obtain a powerful, vibrant and intense wine that is fermented on the lees (sediment).
